About Us
Video of Our First Sunday
Before we could find a more permanent home, the members of New Beginning Columbus brought together their resources to get the services up and running. At New Beginning Columbus we take care of each other and our community.
The Basics
We believe that God created the world and everything in it, including human beings.
God created a perfect world. In the beginning, there was no sin–no hatred, no disunity, and no death. But God also allowed humans to make their own choices.
The first humans, Adam and Eve, disobeyed God, allowing sin to enter God’s perfect world. From then on, every human has been born with sinful desires that lead to separation from God.
Because God loves the world and the people in it, he made a plan to make the world perfect again by taking away the guilt of our sin.
God sent his son, Jesus, into the world as a human. Jesus gave his life to pay the price for sins he did not commit. Jesus willingly accepted the punishment for our sins so that we do not have to bear the penalty of sin.
Three days after Jesus was killed, God brought Jesus to life again, defeating the power of death and evil. Jesus still lives today, eternally in heaven with God the Father. He will come back to earth to put an end to evil–sin, death, and pain–and renew all things, making the world perfect once again.
In the mean time until Jesus comes back to make the world perfect, we are not alone and left to fend for ourselves. He sent the Holy Spirit to guide, comfort, and to strengthen us. We believe that the Holy Spirit is God actively present in the world and he is God revealing himself and his will to humanity. He abides in the heart of all who call Jesus Lord, acting as our advocate with God and God’s interpreter to us. He calls us to trust and obedience and thereby produces in our life the fruits of holiness and love.
How We Live and Experience Our Faith Daily
Our faith is centered in God’s love for us demonstrated in Jesus Christ, his son.
When we accept Jesus’ sacrifice for us and commit our lives to following him, God sees us as perfect, the way we were first created to be. We do not create this faith on our own; it is the result of God’s grace and his Spirit working within us.
We believe that life can be difficult, but that we are called through our faith to follow Jesus’ command to reach out to others in love, feeding the hungry, and tending to those in need. This means that whatever troubles you have known or whatever “sin” you have in your life, either now or in the past – we love you. This also means that it is our desire to reach out into the community to those who are suffering, hungry, and alone and walk with them, doing whatever we can to show God’s love for them.
And finally, about our offering: We join millions of Christians all over the world in joyfully responding to God’s goodness through the giving of our financial resources. We thank you in advance for your generous and faithful giving. It is only because of your giving that our ministry can continue. One-third of our entire offering immediately goes into our local community to help people in need. That one-third is divided among three local ministries: GRIN (Gahanna Residents In Need) they support families in the Gahanna-Jefferson School District by meeting a wide variety of needs. Another one-third of a third goes to Victory Ministries. They are just west of the Columbus airport and last year alone, they helped more than 5,500 families receive emergency food and services. The last one-third of a third goes to CHOICES. Their mission is to interrupt the cycle of domestic violence by responding to those in need by providing a twenty four hour crisis and information line; temporary shelter counseling and support groups to eliminate domestic violence. View of Christian Faith
The final authority is the Bible–known as the Holy Scriptures, the Word of God.
Our perspective is centered in the overwhelming love of God toward us. We believe that God is three in one–God the father, God the son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit.
We believe that we are saved by grace alone through faith, not by what we think or do to earn God’s favor. Our good works do not earn our salvation, but are a way to thank God for this free gift of salvation.
We celebrate two sacraments: baptism and the Lord’s Supper (communion). These sacraments are gifts from God; earthly reminders of God’s promises to us and his work in our lives to help us claim those promises as our own.
We are confessional, which means that together we have statements of belief, called creeds and confessions. These statements guide our understanding of faith and shape its practice.
